- The American Red squirrel builds its nest in the branches or in cavities of trees or stumps. People are very familar with its loud, rolling "Tcher-r-r" and scolding chatter. Despite being small, the American Red Squirrel has quite a bold character.

- In winter, it lives on food that it diligently gathered. A single cache may contain several hundred spruce or pine cones.
