- Horse Mussels live in the deeper waters, particularly in kelp beds. They are similar to the common Blue Mussels in shape, but the shell tends to be longer. The shell is mauve-white to dark blue. They can grow up to 150 mm.

- They attach themselves firmly to rocks and to each other with strong silk-like threads.
