• Description

  Mermaid’s purses (the egg cases of skates) are often washed up on beaches. They are black and rectangular in shape with a tendril extending from each of the corners.

  Beaches & Sand Dunes, Coastal Zone, Sandflats

• Interesting Fact

  The tendrils originally fastened a newly deposited fish egg case to seaweed or under water objects.
